Nice anecdote, Jeff. And good points. As a service provider, I struggle with this sometimes because what we do is very specialized. I’m thinking about ways to simplify communication for our customers and prospects. Simplify our service agreements. Use laymen’s terms as much as possible in our correspondence and conversations. The most worrisome for me is communicating with prospective clients. Most business owners need what we provide and would come out very profitable in any engagement with us. But the subject matter is usually not even on their radar until we – or their accountants -- tell them about it.

This is a really good reminder of how important it is to find ways to comunicate with clients on a level that will be beneficial to them! The 401(k) industry is full of very technical terms and we need to remember that talking to our clients in non-technical terms will help them understand their retirement plan benefits! I will remind our staff during our next meeting about finding better ways to communicate our services with our clients.

Hi Marty, I am "on your side" with the Giants. It's been soooo long. But having a little luck goes such a long way. Remember the business evaluation you did for us? I'm SURE Jeff told you that you ended up being "spot on"!!!! And yes some of those proceeds went into the stock market as advised by my very fine Financial Planner Mr Tom Oliviera. And yes.....spring has sprung!! You guys are all over it. keep up the good work and maybe i'll see you at a Giants game sometime. HUMMM BABY!!!!! JOE

Those are two adorable subjects in your photo. What a wonderful project for your daughter and your family. It's amazing how much we ourselves learn when we set out to teach or help others.

Thank you for sharing this!

This is a great analogy. It is very easy to fall into Grinch mode, especially when things get tough. A companies culture must be exhibited from the top (from the leader). Depending on what characteristics are displayed, your organization will take on that personality. It is very hard to change it once it is wrong. Here is to more Rudolph's in 2010!
