Jeff Bowman, CPA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 2003

Jeff became a shareholder of the firm in 2010. His specialty is tax and he thrives on finding and communicating ways for clients to pay as little as possible.

Jeff is a Modesto native, has an MBA, is a CPA, and is currently attending the Golden Gate University Master of Taxation program. Jeff enjoys “being able to explain a concept or communicate information that helps a client, and being able to learn from the experience of clients who are very successful at what they do.”

When he’s not helping clients or in school, Jeff is a member and past director of the CalCPA San Joaquin Chapter and a member of Old German Baptist Church. If it’s June, he’s outdoors—probably gardening, “BBQing,” or hiking in the High Sierras. In October, you’ll find him spending time with family and still spending time outside if the weather is nice. But in January … where else would he be but in the office? “It’s tax season!”

Jeff’s favorite number is 2000. “For the year that I got married, and also started my first public accounting job.”

Jeff Coleman, CPA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 1989

As a Shareholder in Grimbleby Coleman, Jeff is a tax department "Partner"—a tax accounting resource for clients and staff and a tax planning and reporting expert.

Jeff received his BS in Agricultural and Managerial Economics, followed by a Masters in Taxation and a CPA. He has worked for Arthur Andersen & Co. and Pfanner & Tate Accountancy Corp.

What Jeff likes about working with his clients is “learning about what they do and how they do it. Also, the trust that you build with the client is rewarding.”

Outside of the firm, Jeff is treasurer for the Ag Science Center Foundation and works with the Modesto Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committees.

Jeff admires Lance Armstrong for “his determination to recover from cancer and excel in his field”; Abraham Lincoln for “his strength of conviction in his ideals and his leadership abilities”; and Mother Teresa for “her compassion and sense of purpose.”

In June, Jeff is likely to be on vacation with family. He’ll be at the kids' soccer games—and jogging with them, too—in October. And in January, he’ll be biking or with the family, before busy season starts.”

Jeff’s favorite number is 5. “Because it seems like all estimates are divisible by 5.”

Martin W. Fox, CPA, CVA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 2003

Marty has been a CPA since 1981 and a Certified Valuation Analyst since 2000, which qualifies him to appraise businesses or business interests. As a shareholder with Grimbleby Coleman, he is in charge of consulting and valuation services.

“My favorite part of working with clients is seeing the ‘Ah-ha’ moments when we are able to help them understand something new about their businesses. It could be a financial revelation, a strategic opportunity, or an operational insight.”

When Marty isn’t helping clients with “Ah-ha” moments, he is involved in the Modesto Rotary, Hope Haven International wheelchair distributions, and Calvary Chapel Church.

Marty enjoys getting together weekly with local business and community leaders to share faith-based solutions to one another's concerns and specific leadership issues.

On a typical Saturday in June, you’ll find Marty on the golf course. “I love golfing in the summer, either at a course or practicing on the range.” The sports theme continues in October. “The playoffs and World Series arouse my love for baseball (my lifelong favorite sport and the absolute best sport for numbers people).”

Martin’s favorite number is 24. “It was the jersey number of my boyhood idol, Willie Mays.”

Clive Grimbleby, CPA

President/Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 1982

Clive has, in his words, been with Grimbleby Coleman “since dirt” and describes his role as “president, cheerleader, and bottle washer.” That makes sense, since he bought the practice from his father, Roy, in 1982. At the time, he had one employee, Claudia.

Before his entrée into business ownership, Clive received a BS in accounting from CSU Sacramento and an MBA from Golden Gate University, followed by time with Coopers & Lybrand and John Waddell Accountants.

When he’s not running the practice, Clive works with Community Hospice—he’s been the president and treasurer, and is currently a board member. He is past chairman and board member at Escalon Covenant Church, a current board member at Del Rio Country Club, and is on the steering committee for the Stanislaus County Business Forum. Whew!

Sue Hudgens, CPA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 1989

Sue serves as the Accounting and Auditing shareholder at Grimbleby Coleman. She handles a majority of the firm’s audits, and brings expertise in interpreting and analyzing financial data to a wide variety of businesses. She's spent time studying as an undergraduate at both UC Davis and California State University in Sacramento, where she received her B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. And speaking of concentration, Sue's also found time for graduate courses in the MBA program at Stanislaus State University.

Sue’s industry expertise includes construction, medical, manufacturing, and not-for-profit entities, where her diverse range of responsibilities include analyzing financial statements and designing and enhancing internal control systems.

When asked what she enjoys most about working with clients, Sue says, “Watching ‘the light go on’ as they understand what their financial statements are telling them and what the implications are. I like making a difference with their ongoing life plans.”

On most Saturdays, weather allowing, you’ll find Sue in her garden. If it’s January, don’t bother—she’s in the office.

Colleen A. Meenk, CPA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 2001

A shareholder since 2010, Colleen has quite a history in public accounting—27 years, to be exact. Her role in the tax department includes delegating and overseeing projects, training personnel, and preparing and reviewing all types of tax returns. Most importantly, she likes helping clients “take care of filing requirements, problem-solve and plan for the future.”

Colleen was born and raised in Southern California and is very involved in her community—but she never strays far from her accounting roots. She serves on the finance committee and the worship team at her church, is treasurer on the board of directors of Safe Harbor Family Services and the Opus Handbell Ensemble. Colleen is also a member of the Stanislaus County Estate Planning Council.

Colleen admires John Wooden “because of his strong leadership on and off the court, and because under his direction the Bruins were invincible (GO UCLA!).”

In January, she’s “at home enjoying time with my family and getting ready for busy season, or I might be in the office if busy season has already started!”

Nathan A. Miller, CPA

Shareholder

With Grimbleby Coleman since 2000

A shareholder of the firm since 2010, Nate oversees staff and helps clients in the area of taxation. He enjoys getting to know the clients he serves, and especially values the bond that forms through working together over time. He also helps the firm evaluate and implement practice management tools.

For the last four years, he’s served on the board of directors for the CalCPA San Joaquin Chapter, and now chairs the Chapter’s annual golf tournament fundraising committee. He is also involved with his church and serves as a mentor in its college-aged ministry.

On a typical Saturday in June, you’ll find Nate doing yard work or toiling away on his Master’s Degree coursework. Or you might find him enjoying a dip in the pool with his family. In January, it’s all business, and Nate spends most Saturdays during busy season in the office.

Our Grimbleby Coleman accountant is an unbelievable help to us. She’s always available for conversation. And she’s always able to give me the answers I need, in terms I can understand.
